Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent honors show draws close, you'll find a demand for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and fill the hearts of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, however the design behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
